As we approach 28 January, a date that marks the launch of our year-long celebration, my heart swells with a deep sense of gratitude. Commemorating two decades of our network's dedication to environmental stewardship and education, this year's inauguration in Medan, Indonesia, is not just a milestone; it's a powerful testament to the impact of our collective efforts.
A Journey of Growth and Connection
Reflecting on the past 20 years, I am filled with awe at the growth and reach of our network. From its modest beginnings, we've expanded to over 10,000 schools and communities worldwide, each committed to the cause of environmental education and sustainability. This journey has been one of learning, connecting cultures, and fostering a global community united by a common goal.
Medan: A City Pivotal to Our Mission
Medan holds a special significance in our history. It was here, in 2008, that our journey in Indonesia began to blossom, with SMP Negeri 1 Medan being the first school to join our initiative. Returning to Medan for the launch is symbolic, a reminder of the seeds we planted that have now grown into a thriving network.
Celebrating a Major Milestone in Medan
This year's launch event in Medan is especially momentous. We are honored to witness the participation of 500 schools from Medan, a remarkable demonstration of local commitment to our cause. Furthermore, the event is set to gather an impressive 4,000 teachers and students, showcasing the vibrant spirit and dedication of the local educational community.
Gratitude and Anticipation
I am deeply thankful for the continued support and enthusiasm of every individual who has been part of this journey, particularly leaders and changemakers like Kalaimani Supramaniam, who have been instrumental in our expansion in Southeast Asia. The commitment of local leaders, educators, and environmentalists in Indonesia, especially in Medan, has been heartwarming.
An Invitation to Global Participation
As the celebration year begins, I extend an invitation to our global network to join in. Let's mark 4th February as a day of global action. Each tree planted in your community will be a symbol of our shared commitment to the environment and to peace. This collective effort, 'Plant And Care For Peace' ('Tanam dan Rawat untuk Perdamaian'), represents our united stand for a sustainable future.
Looking Forward With Hope
The path ahead is full of promise and potential. I look forward to what we can achieve together in the coming year and beyond. This celebration is not just about reflecting on our achievements but about moving forward with renewed energy and determination.
A Personal Note of Thanks
Finally, I express my heartfelt thanks to every member of our network. Your support, passion, and tireless work have been the driving force behind our success. Together, we have planted trees and sown the seeds for a better, more sustainable, and peaceful world. Let's continue this remarkable journey together, one tree, one community, one step at a time.
